Alter Simpl

In the heart of Maxvorstadt, this cute little place is apparently something of an institution. Student prices and a more modern twist on Bavarian classics made for an all-round very enjoyable experience, both food and drinks, the perfect place to meet for a Saturday evening, especially when it’s the day commemorating German unity. Luckily we managed to get a group trip in before the rule of 5 set in.

Sesam Öffne Dich

The perfect spot for a birthday lunch - falafel plates with mezze dips and warm flatbread, to be enjoyed on an adorable little terrace on a pavement of Maxvorstadt.

The Italian Shot

With branches in Maxvorstadt and Glockenbachviertel, it’s pretty much guaranteed to have good vibes. Ideal for a lunch date, with a changing weekly menu, the pizza was among the best I’ve had, and easily adaptable for vegans.

Ooh Baby I like it Raw

I’m still not entirely sure what constitutes a ‘raw‘ diet, but the menu of this tucked-away little cafe in the centre of town didn’t seem too out of the ordinary, although you do have to give them credit for the name. A great selection of cakes and friendly service, not especially plant-based but definitely vegan/veggie friendly. Maybe not one to make a special trip to, but a nice option if you’re in the area.

Mr Clou

Discovered on the way back from a day trip through the TooGoodToGo app (reduced prices to save food waste - if you haven’t discovered it already I’d definitely recommend having a look here), this pasta and salad bar underground in the Hauptbahnhof offered just what I needed: lots of choice, fresh veggies, good prices for feel good food, and super friendly service. This will definitely be a regular when returning to Munich from a day out.

Siggis

Another central one, this comes up again and again on lists of vegan restaurants in Munich, and I can see why. Entirely vegan but with a menu that wouldn’t make you think twice, they get creative with plant-based food to create dishes that will satisfy veggies, vegans and meat-eaters alike. We couldn’t believe that what was in our vegan gyros wasn’t meat, and the menu was full of other things which we’re dying to go back and try. Definitely a favourite favourite find.

Cotidiano

A popular brunch location on the very beautiful Gärtnerplatz, its menu really has everything you could want at breakfast or lunchtime, and if you can get a table, it’s a great option for a relaxed and tasty start to the day.

Hope Fresh

A very convenient location for me in upmarket Schwabing, this place isn’t cheap, but it feels worth it with quality ingredients and genuinely healthy food. The staff are lovely and obviously committed to delivering feel good food, and there’s a really great selection of cakes, sandwiches, breakfast bowls and smoothies. Fabulous decor and a relaxed atmosphere make it a great place to spend the day.
